Social Media Checklist: Virtual Events!

As most of us are keenly aware, we have entered a new period in time in which Virtual and Hybrid Events are a necessary part of the current fundraising season.

This means that an active, engaged online presence is more vital than ever! Now is the time to leverage your social media presence for your upcoming Virtual Events.

In this blog post, we're taking you through five social media tips for your organization to consider. Let's get started!

Social Media Checklist: Virtual Events!

1) Work in Batches.

In case you're not already doing this, prepare your social media content calendar in batches. Set aside a block of time to sit down each week or month to plan and prepare all of your posts. Get the captions written, the images created, and/or ready. Some of our favorite free resources when creating content are Canva, Unsplash, and Pexels. Also, we created a monthly communications calendar that is FREE and downloadable if you need one.

2) Be a friend.

It's called "social" media for a reason! Don't forget to prioritize and make time each day to engage on your social media accounts. Follow relevant accounts, comment and like their posts, send thoughtful direct messages, and respond promptly to all comments and incoming messages! Engaging on social media, if done the right way, is just another way to develop and build relationships. And we all know that building relationships is a non-negotiable aspect of fundraising. So take full advantage of that and be relational!

3) Tell a Story!

Utilize Instagram Stories! Invite your followers to engage with you through polls, Q&As, countdowns, etc. You could even countdown to your event in Instagram Stories using a Countdown Sticker! (By the way, if you're not familiar with the Instagram Story function - google it! There are plenty of free trainings etc, out there to help get you acclimated and familiar with social media if you need it.)

4) Press RECORD.

Get on video! Recruit a recognizable person (if possible) from your organization to go on video and invite your audience to your upcoming event! You could even go "Live" on Instagram and Facebook and share updates on your fundraising progress, or talk about projects your organization is working on, etc. Video is a must in this season and is a valuable way to make a personal connection with your supporters.

5) Create a Group!

Create a private Facebook group for your inner circle tribe! Maybe you need a place to create community for your volunteers, or perhaps a way to connect with your Table Hosts? Consider developing a private Facebook Group to do just that.

We hope these five tips are helpful to get you off the ground and running on social media as you prepare for a successful fundraising event. We're cheering you on in this season!
